Høvik Lys was for over 100 years the country's largest producer of lighting. The trio Jonas Hidle, Kjell Munch, and Arnulf Bjørshol were the company's foremost designers. Over five decades, they left their mark on Norwegian lighting culture. Developing lamps for Oslo City Hall was a comprehensive and challenging task. The designers had to tailor the lighting to the different characters of the rooms. Most prestigious were the 11 giant chandeliers for John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a gift from the Norwegian government. However, the most important market was still the consumer market. Akershus, Viking, Dovre, and Jonas were all lamps that were well-received. Our publications are bilingual, with all text in both Norwegian and English. Author Mats Linder.
